A mechanical
engineering tour-de-force which creates climactic conditions of
a tropical rainforest even when the outdoor temperature is 23
degrees below zero. The mechanical system is designed to provide
constant 85% relative humidity and includes mist and fog
equipment. The entire exhibit is covered by a 100-foot diameter
glass and aluminum geodesic dome. The exhibit includes displays
of Indonesian rainforest environment, educational participatory
graphics, and indoor/outdoor animal, bird and butterfly
exhibits. Inside the climate-controlled dome, waterfalls,
creeks, caves, paths, birds, and butterflies greet zoo visitors.
We received an Energy Partnership Award from Indiana Michigan
Power Company for providing this project with an innovative and
energy efficient electric comfort conditioning system. |
